Welcome to our Website......

in the Most Holy name of the Father and of the Son

and of the Holy Spirit, on true God...Amen.

The Church :

India Christian Mission Church is an Anglican Church formed in 1897 AD by the Anglican Priests from the Parish of Bicester, Oxford shire of England ( of the Church of England) - The Late lamented Rev.Arthur S.Paynter and the Rev.Willian Henry Greet. The Church adheres to the Book of Common Prayer 1928 and the 39 Articles of Religion and all the tenets of the Anglican Communion in general. This is the Church which  has not joined with the Union of CSI / CNI during the years 1947 / 1964 and kept its own identity. The Church enjoys valid Apostolic Succession of the Anglican, Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholic lineages. Now the Church  has 05 Dioceses and 05 Mission Centers apart from Province of Sri Lanka.

The Church is in full communion with :

The Anglican Orthodox Church Worldwide Communion, USA and
The Old Roman Catholic Church – Latin Rite, The Province of India / Asia.
The Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches worldwide
(Province of India ).

                                             Membership :

The Church is one of the founding Members of the Andhra Pradesh Council of Churches ( of the Orthodox and the Protestant Churches of the State ) right from its inception in 1943 which is a Regional Council of the National Council of Churches in India and also one of the founding Member Church of the Andhra Pradesh Federation of Churches ( of Bishops of the  Roman Catholic and the non- Roman Catholic Churches of the State ) right from its inception  in 2004.

The Seminary :

The India Christian Mission Church has started a Theological Seminary during the year 1915 at BHOGOLU village in a 25 acre beautiful Mango and Cashew nut garden. This has faced tremendous financial constrains during the second world war and finally closed in the year 1955 after around 40 long years, by producing hundreds of  Men of God.

This Seminary was restarted in the name of The Saint Andrew's Theological College & Seminary  in the year 2005 by His Grace The Most Rev.Dr.John SDR Nakka at the Cathedral Compound of the India Christian Mission Church at ELURU city, Andhra Pradesh, South India.

The Seminary has a distinct syllabus which also includes Sacred Theology, Mariology, Pastoralia, the Effective Methods of Soul Winning,  Social Work and the primary medical care.

Accreditation / Affiliation of the Seminary :

The Indian Union or the States have  no tradition / system of affiliating or accrediting the Christian Religious Courses / Degrees /Colleges and Universities in India. The system of unitary and open Universities is existed for the general and professional courses / Degrees emerged by the Acts of Parliament or Assemblies of the States purely on secular basis  but not for any of the religious nature and hence, we do not have any accreditation / affiliation with any Univerity in India.

There are no traditional accrediting agencies in India for Theological Courses. However, we have Senate of Serampore in Calcutta of Anglicans, in West Bengal State of North India which is a traditional Theological College started during the Indo British Government which is granting affiliations / accreditations  to certain courses / degrees in different Colleges. We found it very expensive and needs to stick to their syllabus for which we can not manage as we have our own distinct syllabus to train up and equip the candidates for Lay and Holy Orders to fit for any of the World Christian denominations.

Generally, St.Andrew’s Theological College & Seminary is  the Official religious Organ  of The 117 year old traditional India Christian Mission Church which was recognised by the State as all the primry and Secondary Schools run by the Church is obtaining State Grant in Aid for last around 100 years. The College & Seminary is also the official arm of  The Order of Saint James ( HQ : UK and National Office at ELURU, India ) and hence this College & Seminary has its own existence and background of the Church and automatically gains recognition from all the Churches. The Candidates trained in this College & Seminary are working in many denominational / Independent Churches.

Apart from it, we have a continental level Association called Asian Theological Association ( ATA ) headquartered in Philippines

in which we sought the Associate Membership. This is expected during this academic year itself.

The Need of Theological Education

Right from the early Church Fathers to date, the Church has a practise of training her Men for the servanthood of God to serve at the Holy Altar and to adminster the Holy Sacraments. Of course, each and every Church has her own syllabus but claims everything as if hails from the Holy Bible. Any way, it is a dire need  for the Church to have a well trained, disciplined Clergy to lead the people of God. In result, the Schools / Colleges / Seminaries grown up to teach the Courses of Theology and Divinity .

The Difference Between A Theology Degree And Divinity Degree

___________________________________

One of the most popular theology degrees

out there is the Master of Divinity degree.Although it is based in theological principles, it is very different from a traditional theology degree. The Master of Divinity, orM. Div., is the degree you would get if choosing to become a pastor. Many Christian faiths use the M. Div as the standard for becoming an ordained pastor, preacher, revered, etc. It is offered in both seminaries and divinity schools. Even the Roman Catholic Church uses a Master of Divinity when ordaining priests as the standard.

Since the Master of Divinity is a graduate degree, an undergraduate degree is needed before studies can begin in divinity. Many who choose to get the M. Div. can choose to get their undergraduate degree in theology, although it is not necessary. Other degrees M. Div. candidates can choose include history, philosophy, religious studies, or related area.

Other degrees that can lead to a Master’s in Divinity include Bachelor of Sacred Theology, Master of Religion, and there are even programs where students can get both the Master of Divinity and Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the same school. Those who study Sacred Theology are those who go onto become Catholic priests or deacons. In contrast, the traditional theology degree is for those who want to study religion, not practice it, although each denomination has its own preferences on what degrees they want their holy men to have.
